The creation of a USDA certified honey extraction & bottling facility to provide a service to beekeepers in Southwest Georgia.
Southwest Georgia is a rural economically depressed region with limited available options. Farming is the top industry in our state and Georgia is the 2nd largest producer of Honey Bee Queens & bee for sale, and 14th in the nation for honey production.
Beekeepers producing honey can sell their honey directly to consumers from their farm, at their booth at farmers markets and festivals without a certified extraction facility. In our rural region, this limits the potential expansion of their businesses and not everyone has the room or resources to build a USDA honey extraction facility.
A USDA certified honey extraction facility would be able to provide southwest Georgia beekeepers with a place to extract and bottle their honey for a nominal fee. This would give them the option to sell their honey retail, in bulk, online, across state lines, and more creating new economic opportunities with an expanded customer base and providing financial security.
Currently we already have the building and proper zoning for the facility with approval from the county. The building is outfitted with solar power producing a facility with clean energy and a smaller carbon footprint.
We are currently putting in grant applications with private companies to help fund this project as well as crowdfunding and would be extremely grateful for any assistance anyone provides. To contribute to this project, please click the "Let the Honey Flow" button below.
